Wildlife Emergency Response I

Rescuing disabled wild animals requires a unique set of skills, very different from those used in handling domestic animals. WildRescue is offering training in these commands, provided by international experts who respond to wildlife emergencies on a regular basis. While the class is tailored for animal control officers, park rangers, game wardens, biologists, and wildlife rehabilitators, members of the public are invited. Students must be 18 years of age or older.

This unique and comprehensive 8-hour class explores the fundamentals of wildlife rescue including human safety concerns and regulations. Attendees will receive instruction on a variety of successful capture strategies for land and marine animals which will include sections on natural history and appropriate handling. Techniques for re-nesting and fostering healthy springtime babies will also be covered. While much of the day will be lecture, hands-on exercises allow students to practice capture methods and use of equipment. While students are provided direction on proper handling wildlife, completion of the class will not exempt them from regulations that govern possession of native animals.

Wildlife Emergency Response II

This course is available only to first response service providers who have successfully completed WER I and who are working under appropriate state and federal licenses. This class is designed to advance the skills of a wildlife responder so they may be qualified to evaluate a disabled animal's condition and provide stabilization and emergency care as needed. Advanced first aid skills will be taught and students will have the opportunity to practice them during a hands-on workshop. Initial care of neonates will also be covered.
